Growing up on the family farm near Interstate 25 and U.S. 34, Loveland resident Marty loved to bake up cake and goo with her mother as a little girl.
The goo was this chocolate sauce -- the best -- she had to heat up just right and pour over yellow cake.
Years later, she and her 2-year-old grandson Brayden are making memories in the kitchen as they roll and dip and decorate the cake pops for her business, Loveland Cake Pop Co.
Marty's pastry venture, run out of a commercial kitchen next door to her home, started with reindeer. For her grandson's first birthday, Marty came up with her own take on some wildly popular desserts, decorative brownie bites on sticks. What resulted were little Rudolf heads made from rounded cake, dipped in milk chocolate and adorned with pretzel antlers and Red Hots candy noses.
Today, Marty will style her cake pops in any form her customers can dream up: paper dolls, flowers, fish, dogs and bones, and some simple and elegant for weddings or engagement parties, topped only with milk chocolate and silver and blue sprinkles.
"When people ask for things, you see if you can do it," Marty said.
Since Mother's Day, with Loveland Cake Pop Co. gaining word-of-mouth notoriety, Marty has produced more than 3,000 of her 1-inch pops.
Marty's most recent endeavors included making red, white and blue cake pops for a birthday party Sunday. More of her Fourth-themed pops were sold near Lake Loveland as part of a benefit for Team Stabos, a local organization dedicated to raising money to fight cancer in people of all ages.
Because of the time involved, Marty takes minimum orders of a dozen on up. Cake pops can be made in traditional, sugar-free and gluten-free varieties and are $2.50 to $2.75, depending on intricacy, and prices may vary from project to project.
Orders can be placed by calling 970-593-1076. As for the future, Marty is excited to be back in the food business -- something she's no stranger to.
Loveland Cake Pop Co. is located in Loveland Colorado.
